After your baby arrives, your body usually feels very different.

You may feel weaker in places you didn’t expect. Feeding, carrying, lifting and lack of sleep all add up quickly. A lot of women also realise they haven’t really stretched, rested or properly breathed since the baby arrived.

When can you start Mum & Baby Yoga?

If you’ve had a vaginal birth, you can usually start from 6 weeks, after your postnatal check.

If you’ve had a caesarean, I ask you to wait until at least 12 weeks before joining classes.

That is firm requirement in my classes because a caesarean is major surgery. We’re lifting babies, getting up and down from the floor and using the body in very practical ways throughout class, so proper healing matters.

If you’ve had tearing or an assisted birth, recovery can vary a lot from person to person. Some women feel ready earlier than others.

There is no benefit in rushing back before your body feels ready.

Mum & Baby Yoga with E14YogaCoach

Babies are part of the class and that’s what makes these sessions what they are.

Some sleep through most of it, some feed the whole way through, and some need a lot of attention in between. We work around that as it happens.

At the beginning of class we usually start lying down. Babies might be next to the mat, feeding, or being held. Sometimes I’ll hold a baby for a moment if that helps a mum settle. It’s often the first time in the day things slow down a bit.

The class moves between different parts – yoga for mums, movement with baby, stretches where babies are included, breathing, and a short relaxation at the end. It flows rather than being separated into fixed sections.

Some classes are quieter, some are more interrupted, depending on what the babies need and what the mums need that day. That changes every week, and that’s just how it is.

The way I teach

The class is calm and simple. We work with what your body needs on the day.

If a posture doesn’t feel right, I will adjust it for you or show you another option. That might be a verbal cue to help you find it more comfortably, or, with your permission, gentle hands-on adjustment so the posture works better for your body.

You can stop, rest, feed your baby or ask for help at any point. I stay aware of everyone in the room so you’re not left trying to figure things out on your own.

Recovery after birth

A lot of women arrive thinking they feel “fine” until we start moving.

That’s usually when they notice tight shoulders, weaker abdominal muscles, tension through the neck and back, changes in breathing, or that certain movements feel less stable than before.

We work gradually with all of that.

The focus is not on pushing your body or “getting back” to anything. It’s about rebuilding strength steadily and helping your body feel supported again.

Mum & Baby Yoga FAQ’s

If you’ve had a vaginal birth, you can usually start from 6 weeks, after your postnatal check.

If you’ve had a caesarean, I ask you to wait until at least 12 weeks before joining.

If you’re unsure because of tearing, assisted birth or recovery complications, it’s always best to check with your GP, midwife or health visitor first.

Yes. You may book a one-off trial session to see if E14YogaCoach has the right class for you.

Babies come with you and are part of the class. We practice yoga for mum on her own, for baby oh their own and for mum and baby together.

That is completely normal.

You can stop at any point to feed, change, settle or cuddle your baby. Nobody expects babies to stay quiet through a class, and Sharon loves babies and is happy to hold or soothe a baby if you like.

The class includes yoga postures for mums, movement with baby, breathing practices, stretching, relaxation and postures where baby can join in.

Some of the focus is on recovery after birth, including abdominal strength, posture, pelvic floor awareness and releasing tension from feeding and carrying.

Then wait a little longer.

Some women start at 6 weeks. Some come months later. There’s no “correct” timeline.

Yes, once you are at least 12 weeks post birth and feeling ready to return to movement.

Yes. Most women who join my classes have never practised yoga before. Everything is explained and shown in class and I will help you.

Yes. There is plenty of space for prams and buggies inside the venue.

Yes. The class is on the ground floor with step-free access into the building.

This doesn’t guarantee a particular type of birth, but it does help you feel more informed and more confident going into it.

Yes. Baby changing facilities are available at the venue.

I provide thick black mats. Its always more comfortable to bring you own mat to pop on top but most women simply use the black mats. Please bring a muslin, blanket for baby to lie on and their usual nappy bag, snacks and toys. Don’t forget a bottle of water for you to sip from.

That’s completely fine. Some babies sleep for most of the session whereas others are awake the entire time.

Also, completely normal! Nobody expects babies to stay settled for an entire class, and you can stop, feed, cuddle or move around whenever you need to. There is absolutely no judgement and I’m here to offer support if you need it.
