About the class
Baby Massage is a calm, welcoming class for new mothers and young babies. It’s suitable from birth until babies are actively moving and rolling consistently (usually around 5–6 months).
The classes focus on gentle baby massage techniques, connection, relaxation and giving mothers somewhere supportive to be during the early newborn weeks.
For many women, those first weeks after birth can feel surprisingly isolating. Days often revolve around feeding, naps and trying to work out life with a newborn on very little sleep. This class offers a gentle reason to get out of the house, meet other mothers and settle into a quieter weekly routine together.
Each week we work through different massage techniques that may help support digestion, wind, colic, relaxation and sleep. There’s also time to chat, feed, change nappies and simply pause for an hour with other women at a very similar stage of motherhood.
The classes are completely baby-led. If your baby needs feeding, cuddling, rocking to sleep or simply doesn’t feel like massage that day, that is absolutely fine.
No previous experience is needed and you do not need to massage your baby “perfectly”. The atmosphere is relaxed and there’s no pressure to get everything right.
What it feels like
The room is usually calm, quiet and very understanding of the realities of life with a newborn.
Some babies sleep through half the class.
Some feed the entire time.
Some cry.
Some need cuddling for most of the session.
None of it is a problem.
There’s space to arrive exactly as you are, whether you feel organised and well-rested or like you’ve barely made it out of the house.
For many mothers, the social side of the class becomes just as important as the massage itself.
The practical bits
Classes take place in a large, bright ground floor room with step-free access and space for buggies. I’m usually there about 15 minutes before class starts so there’s time to arrive, feed baby and settle in slowly.
We sit on the floor and lean forward to massage your baby, working at a relaxed pace, using blankets and pillows to make ourselves comfortable.
Classes are kept small so they stay relaxed and personal.
You can begin with a trial session and then choose from a 5, 10 or 20 class pass. Booking opens one month in advance and closes an hour before class.
What to bring
A towel or blanket for baby to lie on can be helpful, along with your usual changing bag supplies, milk and anything that helps your baby settle comfortably.
Wear comfortable clothing and bring some water for yourself.
A small bottle of oil is helpful, but it doesn’t need to be anything specialist.
Something simple like sunflower oil or your usual baby lotion works well.
A lighter oil is generally easier than something thick or creamy.
If your baby has sensitive or sore skin, it’s best to keep this in mind when choosing what to use.
If you’d prefer not to use oil or undress your baby, that’s absolutely fine — we can work with a clothed massage.

The class is held at Dockland Settlements (Calders Wharf), Saunders Ness Road, E14 3PS, on Tuesdays at 10am.
We’re next to the Greenwich Foot Tunnel and a 2-minute walk from Island Gardens DLR.
The class takes place in the large ground floor room, with plenty of space for prams.
